Detective Harry Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman. Only watched it for 25 minutes.
This unusual premise runs through The Girl on the Train (2016), its plausibility resting on the victim being in such an alcoholic haze that their regular blackouts become blank mental spaces to be filled with memories chosen by someone close. I'd read the book which I thought was brilliant so was interested to see how it would transfer to the screen.

Earlier this year, I read The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins as part of a book club. Good representation of the book (although not set in same location). Emily Blunt was wasted, it was predictable, and was not even entertaining. Brilliant film...so powerful. Writing and acting great - Emily Blunt especially. She didn't overdo it for dramatic affect but kept it low key which made it more real to anyone who has been around a real alcoholic. I must admit it took me a little way into it to understand where it was going but everything is revealed and doesn't leave you wondering what or why.
